Five years ago today I started my adventures with Haagen-Dazs/Nestle Toll House Cafe at Oak Park Mall in Overland Park. Today is the very same day of the week it was when I started there — a Monday! I have mixed feelings about today.
On the one hand this is the longest I have held a job (even as an adult) and that shows a lot of commitment; on the other hand, I’m sad that this has been the longest I’ve been at a job and still it isn’t even in my major. I have nothing to really show for it that I can think of either. I can show that I’ve grown a lot and have had many challenges to face (e.g., losing a great friend/co-worker and stepping up to become the back-up shift lead as well as checking in deliveries). I’ve also learned how to deal with difficult customers a lot better than I did when I first started out in the corporate world about 11 years ago!
All in all, this job has been fun and great meeting lots of new people who I might not otherwise have met. I mean who would have guessed I’d meet a minister man of God who owns a franchise and would later become one of my greatest friends (and cheerleaders/”dad”? Things like that don’t happen every day!
Also who would have guessed that I would ever be in a kitchen-like setting baking when I don’t even like to bake or can’t even follow a simple recipe at home?! 😯 Not me, that’s for darned sure!
Five years are a long time and lots can, and usually does, change a lot in such a short and long time as that! Where do I see myself in the next five years? I have NO idea, but wherever it is, I’m sure it will be where I’m meant to be. 🙂
Love and prayers, now and always! ❤
